Airbnb has recently announced that for two nights only, you can stay at Shrek’s Swamp!
Located in the hills of the Scottish Highlands, the listing is for October 27-29th October 2023 and will cost a grand total of $0. The booking will open on October 13th at 1 p.m. ET and Airbnb will make a one-time donation to HopScotch Children’s Charity, which provides disadvantaged children with nurturing and holiday trips.
The listing is hosted by none other than Shrek’s best friend (his words), Donkey! His profile reads, “Wow, it is so nice to meet you. I’m Donkey, and I’m making magic with Airbnb to roll out the welcome mat this October while I’m swamp-sitting for Shrek. I have to be honest – I love everything about the swamp: the boulder out front, the modest interiors, the seclusion (ideal for singing karaoke late into the night), you get the picture. I can’t wait for guests to experience this muddy slice of paradise for themselves.”
Those lucky enough to secure the booking can expect plenty of Shrek-themed goodness, including:

- Kicking their feet up with a parfait
- Swapping stories around the fire until late in the night
- Enjoying a stack of freshly made waffles in the morning
- And of course, using the ultimate privacy of Shrek’s trusted outhouse
There will be plenty to do during your stay with the swamp and the forest around it offering “plenty of outdoor activities: winding trails to explore, picturesque picnic spots under the endless conifer trees, and unobstructed skies perfect for stargazing.”
Over the last few months, Airbnb has listed a few out-of-the-ordinary rentals, including Gwyneth Paltrow’s guesthouse. But it looks like the company has outdone themselves this time, taking the magic of Shrek and planting it straight into the Scottish wilderness.
