The expansion into the western states of the USA during the 19th and 20th centuries led to the rapid establishment of hundreds of towns that were primarily centered around mining, logging and the gold rush. These towns were soon left abandoned once the resources ran out.

These towns, which have been left relatively untouched, offer an intriguing snapshot of life in a different era. Why not take the opportunity to visit one of these towns?

St. Elmo was founded in 1880 due to the establishment of nearby silver and gold mines.

In its prime, St. Elmo had over 2000 residents, but when the gold and silver ran out so did the residents, leaving the town virtually untouched.

One of the more haunting aspects of the town is the abandoned homes. The homes were left as-is including dining room sets, curtains and table. The occupants just vanished!

The Starlight Theatre is a rarity in that it is an early 20th century movie theatre. It is definitely a photo opportunity not to be missed.
