New Airline Promises Luxury at a Low Cost

“People are sick and tired of the service they get on current airlines,” says the founder of the world’s newest airline, Global Airlines.

James Asquith, a 34-year-old entrepreneur, has based his new company in London, Gatwick, and plans on injecting some class back into transatlantic journeys. Expect Laurent-Perrier champagne and private chauffeurs for first-class ticket holders.

Despite these luxury extras, the airline says its prices will be either equal to or lower than other carriers. The reason why they can afford to slash their prices is down to how they get their plans. Global Airlines is planning on buying previously used Airbus A380s at a reduced price rather than forking out for brand-new aircraft.

Profit doesn’t seem to be at the forefront of Global Airlines’ agenda; in an interview with PA news agency, Asquith stated that he’d rather “walk away with zero (money) and have something that people genuinely love.”

Frustration and anger has been growing toward the airline industry, with looming strikes and delayed or canceled flights putting off potential passengers. “We’ve all suffered for far too long with long security queues, late flights, lost luggage, inedible food and constant poor customer service,” states the company website. “Global Airlines offers fast relief from the aches and pains associated with commercial air travel.”

The airline plans to own 15-20 planes over the next two years and “expand pretty aggressively from there,” the founder explained. The aim is to have flights from London to New York running by summer 2024 before expanding to Los Angeles and beyond.

Before launching Global Airlines, James Asquith worked in investment banking for 8 years while building a strong social media brand. At the age of 24, he became the youngest person to travel to every country in the world.

It has been his “ultimate dream” since childhood to launch an airline, and he plans to fully commit to his new endeavor. “If it takes me until the last day of my life, we’ll get there. I got told by everyone, including my parents, that going to every country in the world was madness; it would never happen. I’ve been told that throughout my entire life, for everything I’ve done.

“There is not a single part of me that thinks Global Airlines won’t get off the ground.”
