How strange would it be to encounter a ship that is fully stocked with supplies, yet has no crew members and no evidence of a struggle? This was the scenario for the 19th century cargo ship, Mary Celeste. When found, the ship was in perfect condition and all of the cargo was accounted for. The only thing the captain left behind were his notes and, in them, no one was able to find any explanations as to the fate of the crew. No one has been able to solve the mystery of the Mary Celeste.

One of the newest travel mysteries that rocked the world became a reality in 2014 when a Malaysian Airlines plane went missing in the South China Sea. Years have gone by, and extensive searches have revealed no signs of any wreckage, plane parts, or passengers. Theories include some sort of hijacking, or maybe some sort of extreme mechanical failure. There has been no evidence to prove either, so the event remains extremely baffling. Thus far, the mystery of Flight MH370 continues to stand as one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in the world of planes.

One of the most fascinating archeological mysteries are the Nazca lines. Located in Nazca Desert in Peru, the massive geoglyphs create gigantic images of animals and plants. These images were created to be viewed from above, which has led archaeologists to come up with an assortment of theories. Some believe the images are an ancient form of astronomical calendars; others believe they are forms of communication to aliens.

Experts were puzzled when sinkholes appeared from nowhere in 2014 in remote areas of the Yamal Peninsula in Russia. One of the holes measured over 20 meters wide and more than 171 meters deep, with no visible explanation, such as a meteorite impact, that could have caused the hole. There is speculation about unexplained underground gas explosions, or gas hydrates that are released due to climate change, but none explain the phenomenon.
