Many places throughout the U.S. are known for some of the best things: sun, sand, surf, and relaxation. You can always count on tropical and sunny destinations packed with out-of-towners.

However, high school seniors and college students partying on spring break have ruined some of the best beach destinations. Litter, loud music, and open drunkenness can severely damper your family vacation, so be sure to avoid these places in the springtime.

Palm Springs, California

Spring break often coincides with the famous Coachella Music Festival in La Quinta and StageCoach Music Festival in Indio. Because of these popular events, young people flock to the Palm Springs region to soak up the sun in the desert.

However, all these people blowing off steam in the same area can be a big problem for locals and homeowners in Palm Springs. Many people have issues renting out their homes in the springtime out of fear of their property being trashed.

The concert grounds and surrounding areas are often littered with garbage and broken glass, which makes this hard for everyone else to enjoy the area.

Freeport, Bahamas

The Grand Bahamas island is a trendy place for students to visit in groups due to its proximity to Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Flights are cheap, and the drinking age is 18, making this the perfect destination for young people looking to party.

This means that the island is often full of young people who don’t know how to hold their liquor. The island can get extremely rowdy with rude college students, and it’s widely known to avoid this island at all costs from February to May.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Fort Lauderdale has a long reputation for being a hot spot for partiers. During the mid-1980s, the residents began to get tired of the chaos that seasonal tourists brought to their coastal paradise.

Ever since, Florida has been a favorite destination of spring breakers nationwide. Many people drive from every corner of the U.S. and Canada to let loose.

Unfortunately, this means that motels and hotels all along the beach strip are turned into impromptu dorm rooms, which leave little room for calm vacations for everyone else.

Outer Banks, North Carolina

While Outer Banks used to be a quiet seaside town, the area has exploded in popularity in recent years. As other parts of North and South Carolina have become too populated, many people have turned their sights to the Outer Banks to renovate the old homes falling apart on the coastline.

The nearby town of Nag’s Head rents ultra-cheap motel rooms, which makes this a cheap destination for college students. Lately, the beach has been littered with broken bottles and drunk youngsters, making it difficult for families living on the coast or other tourists to enjoy the beach.

Tijuana, Mexico

Tijuana is incredibly close to California, which makes it the ultimate destination for young people looking to drink and party to visit.

Unfortunately, Tijuana has many political issues paired with an unstable economy based on seasonal visitors. The cartels have also flocked to control businesses in the area as many partygoers come to buy illicit substances and fireworks.
